Do I have to keep an old-school ledger–circa 1980 style–and keep meticulous track of my spending? Is that what I have to do to prevent your system from pushing me into overdraft after overdraft after overdraft?

Well, I know that, Brenda, I replied. Getting as far away from zero was the old American past time, but life keeps getting more expensive, and employers are paying less and less, and unemployment is rising with no end in sight. So, hovering around zero is the new American past time. Soon, there will be a television show called Guess Who’s Homeless!
