No matter how much I desire for my life to be reliable and secure, everything and everybody I cherish can be lost in an instant, at any moment, and ultimately will be, and there is nothing I can do about that.
But I am not powerless.
I can choose to have a lot less to lose. I can emotionally detach from most of my possessions. I have. So, I’m selling them. In fact, I’ve been unloading possessions for weeks–and the less I own, the better I feel.
Go figure.

Did you know that the Universe is always expanding in every direction. It’s like a giant blob of energy and matter, just rushing in every direction to fill the void. So the Universe has an edge, and something that has edges has a shape, yes?
So what does that mean? Well, given that the universe has been expanding and morphing for longer than human beings have been thinking up shit, I think it’s safe to assume that this blob of unconscious matter and energy must have–at some point–taken the shape of everything we can imagine.
SO at some point the universe was probably shaped like several pornographic images.
AND do you know what that means?
Nothing.

Yes, I do have a question, actually.
Ok.
Well, I was just forced to put my right hand on a two thousand-year-old religious text — a text containing many ideas with which I disagree strongly, by the way.
I was then forced to swear on the main character of this story — a character that I have very little respect for, by the way -a character that I would be quickly hospitalized for emulating, in fact.
And all of this — this state sanctioned religious ritual — is somehow believed to demonstrate the verisimilitude of my forthcoming answers.
[impatient tone] What is your question, Mr. Bivona?
How is that not a violation of my freedom of religious expression?
…[silent, obnoxious staring]…
That would the the FIRST Amendment, in case they didn’t cover that at your fancy four-year lawyer party.
